30 junio Translation of my XNA Tutorialsxnameetingpoint.web.officelive.com have asked for my permissions to host a copy of my shader tutorials, and translate them into multiple languages:
This is just the first tutorial, but my other tutorials will also be added when they are ready, so if you want to read my tutorials in other languages, check out this site in case they are translated.
Thanks to everybody who have hosted a copy of my XNA tutorials( with my permission ) and/or a translated them. This means the tutorials can reach out to many other XNA users, letting even more people know about XNA and use it as a tool for making their own games. Keep it up guys!
As I have said before, I got two tutorials comming. Due to the lack of time these have not yet been posted, but will be after the summer. This is because I have used a lot of time on work as I was going to have a long summer. So, please stay tuned for some great tutorials afte the summer, starting with a kicking Game Camp User Group at NITH, August 25th! Game Camp User Group: 03.09.2009 ( Might change )The next Game Camp User Group will take place on the following date: 03.09.2009! ( Might change )
Get ready for some nice presentations( a flyer will be made soon ) and a cool program.
This event will be included in NITH's "onboarding" program, but will also be open for all, free of charge!
As I'm in Finland now, taking some time away from my normal life, this blog will have a limited amount of updates.
I will post a new blog on both this page and on gamecamp.no when the agenda have been set. ;) 25 junio Dare to be DigitalI was talking with Bjørnar from NITH, and he sent me a link to their project blog for Dare to be Digital.
I found their project really interesting. It looks cool and their progress over the past weeks have been amazing. It does not feel like it's a very long time ago since I had a workshop for them about Cel/Toon-shading!
Great work guys, I'll follow the blog and feel free to send me updates as they come!
If you know how to read norwegian, or just want to see some cool pictures, feel free to check out their blog:
24 junio XNA WorkshopPhew, after a long road of fixing and debugging, my computer is finally working again!!( so far at least ... )
The week have mostly been about work, but I had a pretty long workshop on sunday for a norwegian/swedish/finish game programming team, whom wanted to implement shaders into their engine and some more advanced shaders like normal mapping, parallax shading( I will upload the example and write a tutorial about this soon ) and shadows. The session was a great success and we managed to get it all in after 5 hour(ish) of coding :)
I will add a QA on this once I get some spare time.
Seems like these workshops get more and more popular as I get many requests( didnt know that many was working on something there in oslo these days, great news!! ), so feel free to send me a mail and I'll see what we can do! :)
Today I held a presentations/hands-on lab with a co-worker on WPF, Expression Blend and Microsoft Surface( yeah we got one ;) for the summer studends at Accenture Oslo)! I think it went pretty well, some demo effects happened( bluescreen, my computer froze ++ ) but that is quite common when having demos right?? ;)
Our gamecamp game is progressing as well and we are getting quite done the graphics part. I will post some screenshots asap. 17 junio My Computer is about to break down..My computer is getting bluescreens all the time. I think it might be my HD or my RAM, and have ordered a new HD just to try it and see if it works, as that is a pretty cheap solution. The problem have been going on for about two weeks now and I cant do anything without getting corrupt data and so on..
Anyhow, my HD will arrive next week, and hopefully it will work so I can continue with XNA programming and preparing the game for our next Game Camp User Group meeting, and push out some more tutorials( 95% done but needs some tweaking once my computer is working again ).
Also, as usual, the work is pretty buys now before the summer, so my days are pretty much work, eat, answer mails regarding my tutorials, chill and sleep. I have a very cool assignment at work now, regarding FAST Enterprise Search, which eats away my time anyway so it was good timing that my computer broke down. :P
I also ordered tickets for me an my girlfriend to Portugal for a Kitesurf camp they have down there.
In other words, my summer vacation is planned and my blog will be without much updates in the following periods:
30.06.2009 - 17.07.2009: Finland 26.07.2009 - 05.08.2009: Kitecamp Portugal
Esposende - Portugal
Hopefully I will get my tutorial out soon, at least one of those I'm working on atm. so you guys get something to do during the summer!
Also, my Artificial Intelligence tutorial have been started and I'm working on Tutorial 1, which will be a short introduction to AI and AI in XNA/Games. 11 junio XNA 3.1 released!!XNA Version 3.1 was recently released and can be downloaded from here:
The new version adds a lot of great functionality! This includes Avatar support, XNA Live party support, Video Playback, Updates on the Audio API and the content pipline, and XAC3!
I'm currently trying out the new features and will share some of my experiences when I get so far. :) Workshop on XNA/HLSL 11.06Now that the summer is here, a lot of students are working on their own projects. A team working on a project for DreamBuildPlay 2009 asked me to hold a workshop for them, helping them getting started with HLSL and implementing a shader library into their own project.
In this workshop I will learn them the basics of HLSL and how to replace the Basic shader they are using now, with their own. Also, we will implement the lighting functionality they are using now, with their own shader, making the project continue where they are now, but with their own shaders instead of the built in shader!
So, if you are working on a project that needs some help with anything, I would be glad to help out by holding a workshop and learning you how to implement what you want( If I know how ;P ). Just send me a mail and I'll see what I can do!
Ohwell, back to work :) 08 junio Some updatesBeen another busy week and another to come as we are in the middle of going live on the project I'm working on, but I still managed to use some time on XNA. I have been working on the next Game Camp user group we are going to have, and on Balder.
The next Game Camp user group will contain a session by me and Thomas Beswick where we go from getting a game idea, designing it, implementing it, testing it and publishing it. The game will be quite simple( but not as simple as pong ++), but still fun to play, with a few levels and so on. The presentation will learn you something about design, what to do with your ideas, how to make concept art and use photoshop and 3d modeling tools to make graphics for you games, and implementing it using XNA/C#.
Ziggyware.com have continued posting my tutorials on his site, and as many as 13 are now added. This is cool as we help distributing them, making more people aware of XNA and its capabilites. Also, some of my tutorials are postet on other sites in various languages. I might make an overview on this blog so you can find them all in one place, but I will need some time to locate them as some are posted without notifying me.
My tutorials on Ziggyware can be found here: http://www.ziggyware.com/articles.php?cat_id=6
I still work on the HLSL tutorial, but are working on the Artifical Intelligence tutoriasl as well.
The first tutorial will cover some AI in general and what I will start covering in the AI tutorial, and my next HLSL tutorial( working on it now) is covering Vertex displacement. ;)
New to XNA and Want to know more? These pages will get you started!
04 junio Special LiveMeeting session with Scott GuthrieI'm currently attending the special live meeting session with Scott Guthrie. So far, I find it really interesting and I hope one of my questions will be answered!
A lot of good questions have been asked and answered, and I finally know some cool stuff that will happen in the future. ;)
( More to come ;P )
03 junio KiteboardingA pretty cool video about kitesuring, I like some of the effects :) YouTube - Calibrate My tutorials on Ziggyware XNAToday http://www.ziggyware.com/ started adding my tutorials on their site. This is a really cool thing as the site is very popular and my tutorials will be reaching out to many more people than it would from just my blog on its own.
The first tutorial is already done and can be read here:
http://www.ziggyware.com/readarticle.php?article_id=256 Thanks, Ziggy! ;)
I have used quite a lot of time this week on working with the next Game Camp event and making a cool example game we will make during the event. The more time we use on this, the more I'm looking forward for the next event. Be sure to be there if you are near Oslo in mid august( Date will come soon )! |
